    Biography

    Dr. Daphne Ly is a breast surgical oncology clinical fellow in the Department of Surgery. She received her BA from San Jose State University in 1987 in Mathematics with concentration in Computer Science. She worked as a software engineer for seven years prior to starting medical school. She received her MD degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine with Honor Diploma for Research in Basic Sciences.

    Dr. Ly went on to receive her General Surgery residency training at UMDNJ Robert Wood Johnson Medical School from 1998 to 2005. During residency, Dr. Ly’s research focused on the role of integrins in wound healing. She continued her research in Wound Healing at the Hagey Laboratory for Pediatric Regenerative Medicine, Stanford University School of Medicine from 2005 to 2008. Dr. Ly stayed on to complete a fellowship in Surgical Critical Care. Dr. Ly is boarded in both General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care. She is also a member of the ACS National Ultrasound Faculty. She is an avid ultrasound user and passionate in teaching the clinical applications of ultrasound to General Surgery residents at Stanford University School of Medicine and UCSF.

    Dr. Ly’s research interests include application of cancer genetics in individualizing cancer care, DCIS histopathology, and integration of computer science in automation of data collection and data analysis in clinical trials and breast cancer care
